  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • Measure apples and put into a large bowl stir in lemon juice and set aside
  • 1/8 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • Pastry Crust
  • while preparing pastry crust.
  • 6 cups Peeled, cored, and sliced Apples (red delicious or gala)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2/3 cup Shortening
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • Cold water


  • 1Measure apples and put into a large bowl stir in lemon juice and set asidewhile preparing pastry crust.Blend flour, salt and shortening until it feels like small peas.
  • 2Add COLD water and blend until dough starts sticking together. Divide dough in half and turn out on to a floured surface and roll out for the bottom crust. Take care and do not over work the dough or it will get tough and will not be tender.To the sliced apples add remainder of ingredients and mix well. Top with sliced butter.
  • 3Roll out the remainder of dough and place on top of the apples, seal edges.
  • 4Brush the top of crust lightly with milk and sprinkle with cinnamon and granulated sugar.
  • 5Bake at 400 degrees or 50 min or until done.
